When my child started in Prep she would *only* wear the dress - somewhere around Gr 4/5 she swapped to culottes & polos. You couldn’t get her into the knit shorts (except perhaps on pain of death) & she only owns 1 dress shirt for choir/band. I don’t have an issue with providing both formal & sport options and then allowing students to choose for themselves within those options.

Could we just have one unisex uniform of polo shirt & shorts in primary school? Nothing is formal enough for children to have to wear gendered uncomfortable clothes, they'll get enough of that as adults. And one hat too, please. It's expensive to have to buy formal & sports uniforms for both genders, if that's what you've got.

Yep. And why girls should be encouraged to wear shorts. And why the P&C is going to look at alternative hat options to present to the school and parents for consideration. The current hat restricts running style and climbing play. It’s not sun safe when not worn properly (which it often isn’t). And makes cycling inconvenient.

DDs school has a dress option, as well as polo shirt and shorts/skort. DD will only wear the dress as its easier to play in and fits her body shape better. I'm glad the girls get choices, but boys only get 1 option which seems very unfair.

All sounds like common sense. Except that we know there are a lot of unproven, unprovable factors. We might not feel sports attire would be appropriate for inter high school Anzac ceremonies or debates, or orchestra performances. Then you end up with all sorts of ‘club’ uniforms or add-ons. So once again cost comes in. The cost herring is always thrown in. But the money spent on kids’ clothes now is breathtaking. Look at schools with no uniform and the competition that causes with wardrobe. There are of course, lots of families who really struggle financially but a hardy uniform was designed exactly to aid this. P and C groups over the past half century have often been the force behind changing uniforms to suit their current tastes, often under the pretext that it is unliked by the students. Students will rebel against lots of rules: the uniform provides one of the least worrying so this is one of its biggest merits.

I would love to see a move towards sports uniform! More affordable for parents, more comfortable for students. I absolutely hate the formal uniform concept!

Wearing the uniform correctly shows pride in yourself and the school.

I am writing to provide an update on two of our forthcoming BCA Cricket Clinics, which will be held during the 2021 June/July school holidays. Both Clinics provide a fantastic opportunity for all boys and girls involved to improve their batting, bowling and fielding skills in a fun and enjoyable environment.

If your school would be interested in circulating the contents of this email to your school and sporting communities, it would be greatly appreciated. We are firm believers that our clinics are beneficial to all involved and provide opportunities for players to improve their cricket, develop new friendships and have fun!

Summary:
The 2021 July Skills Clinic will be run with a strong emphasis on skill development and skill application in different formats.
The 2021 July Mini T20 Big Bash Clinic will emphasise fundamental skill development and skill application in a competition format.
Coaching Staff:
I will be overseeing both clinic programs and will be accompanied by current male and female First and Second Grade cricketers and Blues Academy Coaches.

1. July Skills Clinic
Tuesday 29 June to Thursday 1 July (3 days)
9.00am to 3.00pm
WEP Harris Oval, St Lucia
Girls and boys aged 10 to 16

Skills Clinics are aimed at girls and boys currently playing Stage 2 or Stage 3 within their local area. Players will develop specific areas of their game through high level skill development and game scenario play. The clinic will consist of;

Batting fundamentals – versus swing, short ball, spin, variations.
Bowling fundamentals – grip, runup, release, follow through, swing, stock-ball, variations.
Fielding fundamentals – catching volume, in and out field catching, slips catching, competition fielding under pressure.
Innovation – ramps, paddles, switch-hits, knuckle balls, carrom ball, and more.
Mental preparation and application.

2. July Mini T20 Big Bash Clinic

Girls and boys aged 6 to 10

T20 Mini Big Bash Clinics are aimed at girls and boys currently playing Cricket Australia Junior and Master Blaster or Stage 1 cricket within their local area. Kids will learn the fundamentals of cricket and improve their skills in a fun and engaging environment. The clinic will consist of:

Modified T20 round-robin tournament using a soft ball.
Basic skill development in the nets focusing on batting and bowling fundamentals.
Game awareness including running between wickets and fielding.
Forming new friendships.
Plenty of fun and enjoyment.
