Dutton Park State School P&C Association

Welcome to the Dutton Park State School P&C association website. Learn about why we have a P&C association, what we do, how to get involved and sign up to be a member. We also have the latest information on activities the P&C are supporting, list of upcoming P&C meetings, and our online store will be updated with products and tickets for certain events throughout the year.

The P&C association provides an official structure that allows parents to raise funds to support our school. Our P&C doesn’t have any employees, we are a volunteer association.

Some parents take on positions in the executive committee (we like to have two of each – Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Secretaries, and Treasurers) but lots of parents contribute in other ways, from organising a disco or special food day, to serving coffee at Parent Hub or sorting through lost property.

P&C maintains two mailing lists – members and non-members. Both mailing lists receive emails about activities and events. Members additionally receive agendas and minutes for P&C meetings. P&C membership does not bring with it any obligation to attend meetings or participate in activities but is essential if you want to be involved in deciding how the money that we raise is spent.

Keen to connect but feeling nervous?
Many parents wish they could make friends as easily as their kids do! Here are some suggestions… hang out at Parent Hub (we love to talk)… strike up conversation with other parents or your class parent representative… attend a playdate after School… help organise an event…

Any time that you can give to support activities is appreciated by everyone – get involved as much or as little as you like. See below for more information about what we do and how you can help.

There is no obligation for P&C members to attend meetings, volunteer time or participate in activities, but membership is essential if you want to be involved in voting on any P&C decision during the year, including how the money that we raise is spent.

Due to rules outside our control, you will have to complete a new membership form every year – make sure you fill it in and return it to be sure we have your current contact details.

Parent Hub

Thursday mornings after drop-off, 8.45 am. Join other parents to chat, ask questions, share ideas and peruse the second hand uniforms. We have toys for pre-schoolers, and coffee/tea/snacks for everyone.

The Class Parent Rep

To help parents connect and stay informed about what is going on at school, the Class Parent Representative is a really important role. This parent, or team of parents, keep in touch with other parents in the class and year level (mainly through email). They might also coordinate a class playdate, and liase with the teacher to organise classroom volunteers.

Uniform Shop

The uniform shop is open regularly during school terms, based on when volunteers are available. Currently this is Mondays 8.15 – 9.00 am and Thursdays 2.45 – 3.15 pm. Extra opening hours at the start of term are: Sun 19 Jan 3.00 – 4.30 pm, Fri 24 Jan 8.15 – 9.30 am, Tue 28 Jan 8.15 – 9.30 am, Thu 30 Jan 8.15 – 9.30 am. New uniforms can also be purchased online at flexischools.com.au and parent volunteers will deliver your order to your child’s classroom.

Lost Property

Lost property collects under the administration building (A block). P&C volunteers sort it regularly. If we can read the name and the P&C has your contact details we’ll let you know it is there. At the end of each term, unclaimed uniforms are washed and added to the second hand uniform shop. Non-uniform items are donated to a local charity shop. Make sure you lLabel hats, jackets, lunchboxes and water bottles with a name and phone number!

The range and number of events is limited only by our imagination and volunteer time. Here are some from previous years:
Special lunch days
P&C volunteers organise special lunch options for activity days that are otherwise organised by the school, e.g. Sports and cross country days, Under 8s Day, book week parade day. Food options vary each time, and may be anything from a sausage sizzle to sushi.
P&C activities
These are planned and run by a team of volunteers, usually with one or two parents taking the lead e.g. Back to School Pot Luck, Mothers Day Stall, Ride to School day, Pre-Prep playdate.
P&C major fundraising events
Trivia night (a parents only quiz night), Mess-art-opia (our version of a School fete), and an end of year Disco.

Fundraising ensures our kids get great resources to support their learning! We’ve recently funded iPads, playground markings, sandpit, musical instruments, art supplies and programs, library books, philosophy resources and training, interactive whiteboards for all classrooms, fencing and carpets. Some ongoing fundraising activities include:
Name Labels
Buy name labels from MyNameLabel.com.au using the code DPSS051218 to get 5% discount and support our school. Include a name and mobile number on your labels to help us return lost property to you!
Containers for Change
Our Scheme ID is C10017770, use this when you recycle a minimum of 50 containers to donate the 10 cent refunds to our school.
Book Club
We take part in Scholastic book club once a term. A booklet is sent home with kids. Submit the order form at school or use the LOOP app, which will link your order to our School. Orders are distributed via classrooms.

Monthly P&C Meeting

The P&C meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, 6.30-8.30 pm in the school library. Meetings are all about information sharing over some drinks and snacks. We hear updates from the school principal, the executive and subcommittees. We come up with ideas, ask questions and make decisions. Children are welcome to read quietly in the library, or watch a film in the School Hall with a Jabiru staff member. Everyone is welcome!

Special Interest Groups

We have a range of special interest groups that may interest you:
Gardening Group
We have a Gardening group that meet each
Wednesday after school to look after and add to the plants around school grounds.
Library Helpers
We have the library helpers, who spend an hour or so each week covering books. They also get involved in book week.
Dad’s Group
A Dad’s group has recently formed, associated with ‘the fathering project’, to help father figures to connect and get involved with their child’s education. They socialise and raise funds for the school.
